Ram, the American truck brand, is gearing up to introduce a new compact electric commercial van tailored for the U.S. market. While not explicitly replacing the ProMaster City, this new model is poised to fill the gap left by its predecessor, according to Chrysler and Ram chief executive Chris Feuell’s remarks at the brandās recent Investor Day.
Speculations suggest that Ramās new electric van could draw inspiration from Fiatās European offerings, particularly the Fiat Scudo and E-Scudo models. In Europe, the E-Scudo features battery options including 50 kWh and 75 kWh, offering a range of up to 205 miles (330 km) on the WLTP cycle. It supports rapid DC charging at 100 kW, allowing for an 80% charge in just 45 minutes.
During the Investor Day event, Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares highlighted the strategic goal to challenge Fordās dominant position in the U.S. professional vehicle segment, which commands a significant 40% market share.
Reports suggest production of the U.S.-bound electric van, possibly based on the Fiat E-Scudo platform, could commence by late next year at Ramās facility in Turkey. Autoblog has speculated that the van could alternatively be based on the Fiat Doblo, albeit smaller than the E-Scudo.
