Ram has confirmed that it will not move forward with the long-range version of its 1500 REV electric pickup, which was initially expected to offer over 500 miles of range.
The company announced that plans for the variant, which would have included a large 229 kWh battery, have been scrapped, with Stellantis halting all related activities.
According to a supplier notice viewed by MoparInsiders, Stellantis decided to cancel the “Light Duty RAM 1500 DT BEV XL (long range variant)” and instructed suppliers to “immediately cease all activities” and suspend spending related to the project. The cancellation specifically pertains to the long-range version of the 1500 REV, leaving the standard 168 kWh battery option, capable of up to 350 miles of range, to move forward.
This move comes as Ram shifts its focus toward the Ramcharger, a plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) that will feature a 92 kWh battery and a 3.6-liter V6 engine. Ram targets a combined range of up to 690 miles for the Ramcharger, which will be available in the first half of 2025.
The delay in the all-electric Ram 1500 REV, which was originally expected by the end of 2024, has also been confirmed, with its launch now set for 2026. The cancellation of the long-range variant is part of Ram’s evolving strategy as it prioritizes the hybrid Ramcharger in its electric vehicle lineup.
