Indian e-scooter provider Quantum Energy has teamed up with Battery Smart, the country’s leading battery-swapping network for Light Electric Vehicles (LEVs). While largely unknown outside India due to its focus on electric two- and three-wheelers, Quantum’s partnership with Battery Smart aims to revolutionize the electric vehicle (EV) landscape in the country.
Battery Smart boasts an impressive track record, claiming over 30 million battery swaps at nearly a thousand stations, serving approximately 55,000 EV drivers. The network, which installed its first swapping hub in 2020, operates in 25 cities across India, though specific locations remain undisclosed. Battery Smart’s model revolves around partnerships, enabling individuals to set up and manage battery swapping stations with a minimum of ten batteries and a signup fee. EV drivers can easily locate these stations through a dedicated app.
Quantum Energy’s collaboration with Battery Smart signifies a shift towards sustainable mobility. By adopting Battery Smart’s power packs, Quantum aims to alleviate concerns regarding battery replacement costs for its e-scooter users. This battery-as-a-service model not only reduces ownership costs but also contributes to a cleaner environment.
Chetana C., Director of Quantum Energy, expressed enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “By enabling easy battery swapping for our commercial fleet customers, we can reduce their EV ownership costs and give them the confidence to scale their electric fleets across India.” Quantum claims to have deployed approximately 2,000 electric two-wheelers and collaborates with AIMA China and MBI Korea on technical fronts. Their product lines include the Plasma, Milan, Elektron, and Bziness/Bziness Pro models.
