Qiyuan, the newly minted sub-brand of Chinese automotive powerhouse Changan Automobile, has officially introduced its debut model, the A07. The A07 makes its mark by offering consumers not one but two electrifying choices ā the Extended-Range Electric Vehicle (EREV) and the Battery-Electric Vehicle (BEV) variants, a move that has been proven effective in bolstering sales for domestic EV manufacturers.
The grand unveiling of the Qiyuan A07 took place at a highly anticipated event, where the brand showcased five distinct versions of the model, comprising three EREV variants and two BEV variants.
Diverse Pricing Strategy
Qiyuan aims to cater to a broad spectrum of consumers with its pricing strategy. The three EREV versions start at RMB 155,900 ($21,320), RMB 164,900, and RMB 175,900, respectively. Meanwhile, the two BEV variants have competitive starting prices at RMB 166,900 and RMB 176,900, respectively.
Specifications and Dimensions
The Qiyuan A07, positioned as a mid-to-large-size sedan, boasts dimensions of 4,905 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, and 1,480 mm in height, with a wheelbase spanning 2,900 mm. It is worth noting that the A07 is slightly more compact and budget-friendly compared to BYD’s flagship sedan, the Han EV, which measures 4,995 mm in length, 1,910 mm in width, 1,495 mm in height, and features a wheelbase of 2,920 mm.
Powertrain Details
Under the hood, the Qiyuan A07 EREV is equipped with a rear-mounted single motor, albeit with slightly less power than its BEV counterpart. The EREV version boasts a peak motor power of 160 kW and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It is fitted with the same range-extender found in the Deepal SL03, featuring a 1.5L displacement and up to 70 kW power output. Accelerating from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour takes a swift 7.9 seconds for the EREV model.
The EREV variant draws power from a 28.39-kWh lithium iron phosphate battery pack, providing a CLTC battery range of up to 200 km.
On the other hand, the Qiyuan A07 BEV is driven by an electric motor delivering a peak power of 190 kW and a peak torque of 320 Nm, mirroring the specifications of the company’s other new energy brand, the Deepal SL03 BEV. Remarkably, the BEV version accelerates from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.9 seconds. It comes equipped with a 58.1 kWh battery pack, providing an impressive CLTC range of 515 kilometers.
Qiyuan’s Ambitious Roadmap
Qiyuan, born on August 27 as Changan’s EV brand, outlined an ambitious product strategy that includes the A-series, Q-series, and E0-series within its product matrix. The brand is set to release four models this year, including the A05, A06, A07, and Q05. Looking ahead, Changan envisions a global footprint for Qiyuan with ten products in its product matrix by 2025.
Currently, Changan boasts a diversified portfolio of new energy brands, including Qiyuan, Deepal, and Avatr, positioning itself at the forefront of the rapidly evolving EV landscape.
