Porsche CEO Oliver Blume confirmed it had delayed the launch of the all-electric Macan by a year. The postponement of the all-electric Macan launch follows reports that the Volkswagen Group software company has been hit by delays.
“Market launch in 2024,” Blume told Germany’s Automobilewoche about the all-electric Macan. Porsche previously planned to launch the all-electric Macan in 2023.
A Porsche executive said there were no problems with the vehicle’s hardware. The executive, who did not want to be named, said “but the software is still missing.”
Previously, the Volkswagen Group’s software company, Cariad, was reported to be lagging far behind in its development process. This made an impact on vehicle development schedules at Porsche, Audi, and Bentley. All vehicles from the brand share the PPE electric vehicle platform.
Audi, which is also in the Volkswagen Group with Porsche, made no such comments about the upcoming e-tron Q6. Also based on the PPE platform, the model may be affected by the software delays that befell the Volkswagen Group of late.
If this delay stems from Volkswagen’s software, it is expected to affect the launch of electric vehicles from both Audi and Bentley. Audi could delay the launch of the first vehicle based on the Artemis technology platform in the middle of this decade. This delay could also affect Bentley, which targets to only produce electric vehicles by 2030.
