Polestar, the Geely-backed car manufacturer, has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Polestar 5 in its production form during the Polestar Day event held in Los Angeles, California. The sedan, set to launch in 2025, made its debut alongside other models from the brand.
Following two years of development and teasers, the Polestar 5 maintains the sleek sedan design with distinct styling characteristics, echoing the brand’s identity while expressing its unique personality. The front features split headlights akin to the Polestar 4, and although lacking a traditional grille, the carefully crafted lines and creases add character. The flowing roofline extends to an elongated decklid, eliminating the rear window, a distinctive touch also present in the Polestar 4. While its practicality on the road remains to be tested, this design choice aims to set the sedan apart in a competitive market. A prominent LED light bar complements the black bumper at the rear.
Polestar recently announced a collaboration with StoreDot to develop extremely fast-charging batteries capable of providing 100 miles (161 km) of range in just five minutes without degradation. Although the 5 prototype will test this new battery technology, its inclusion in the 2025 model is yet to be confirmed.
The Polestar 5 boasts a powerful performance, generating a total of 872 horsepower and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm) of torque through its dual electric motors, utilizing an 800-volt electric architecture.
The Polestar Day event showcased the brand’s complete range, including the 2024 Polestar 2, Polestar 3, Polestar 4, the inspiration behind the Polestar 5 – the Polestar Precept, the Polestar Electric Roadster Concept, and the Polestar Synergy. Attendees had the opportunity to test drive the enhanced Polestar 2 and experience passenger rides in the Polestar 3 and Polestar 4.
Thomas Ingenlath, Polestar CEO, expressed excitement about the company’s progress, stating, “Polestar Day provides substantial insight into our products and the innovations we are working on together with global leaders in various fields to bring the best electric performance cars to market.” Ingenlath anticipates the coming months to be among the most exciting for the young company, as it expands its lineup and explores groundbreaking innovations.
