As new cars increasingly integrate high-tech features, the connection between vehicles and smartphones remains a crucial aspect that can often feel cumbersome. Polestar, aiming to streamline this link, has unveiled the Polestar Phone, designed specifically for Chinese consumers purchasing one of its electric vehicles (EVs).

While the Polestar Phone may not revolutionize design, it boasts a sleek, minimalist look. With a white back adorned with a central Polestar logo, a stylish metal edge, and four camera lenses, including one trimmed in gold as a nod to its performance models, the phone presents an appealing aesthetic.

Although specifics regarding the phone’s specifications are currently undisclosed, observations suggest the screen features a 21:9 aspect ratio, likely indicating a 6.5-inch display. Despite being branded as the Polestar Phone, the collaboration with Chinese tech company Meizu played a significant role in its development. Both companies are under the ownership of Geely, which facilitated their collaboration.

Polestar’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, emphasized that the partnership with Meizu goes beyond mere branding. He stated, “This is more than just a case of a Polestar logo being slapped on the back of a Meizu phone.” Both the Polestar Phone and the infotainment system of the Polestar 4, a forthcoming model, will run on Meizu’s FlyMe operating system in China, while the car will feature a Google OS in Europe and North America.

Ingenlath highlighted that this collaboration allows Polestar to bridge the gap between the worlds of technology and automotive seamlessly. He noted the challenge of achieving a seamless connection between phones and vehicles, citing difficulties in getting text messages to display correctly in other vehicles with different phones.
