Globally acclaimed electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar (PSNY) has reached a significant production milestone with the completion of its 150,000th Polestar 2 electric sedan. The momentous occasion underscores the brand’s rapid expansion on the international stage.
With its roots intertwined with Volvo’s high-performance legacy for over two decades, Polestar transitioned into an independent Swedish EV manufacturer in 2017, following Geely’s acquisition of Volvo. Its debut offering, the Polestar 1, a visually striking hybrid boasting an electric range of up to 78 miles, heralded the company’s foray into the sustainable mobility landscape.
In February 2019, the unveiling of the Polestar 2 marked a pivotal shift towards a cleaner future, serving as the manufacturer’s inaugural fully electric vehicle. This premium electric performance sedan has not only propelled the Polestar brand to new heights but has also solidified its position as a market leader in prominent regions including Norway, Sweden, Germany, the UK, and Belgium.
Constantly evolving, the Polestar 2 has received continual enhancements through over-the-air updates and model refreshes. The 2024 model, launched earlier this year, introduced a host of new features including more potent batteries, upgraded electric motors, rear-wheel-drive options, and the innovative Polestar SmartZone. The latter, functioning as a “third eye,” replaces the traditional front grille with an array of cameras, sensors, and heated radar, offering advanced safety features.
Polestar’s CEO, Thomas Ingenlath, reflected on this monumental achievement, stating, “The enhanced Polestar 2 represents our finest iteration to date. With refined software, elevated quality, extended range, and faster charging capabilities, it provides the foundation upon which we will continue expanding our enterprise.”
Notably, the 2024 Polestar boasts certification for up to an impressive 654 km (406 mi) WLTP range, coupled with a maximum charging speed of 205 kW thanks to its new 82 kWh battery.
Stateside, the 2024 Polestar Single motor variant starts at $49,900 (excluding a $1,400 destination fee), featuring 68 additional horsepower compared to its predecessor and a combined EPA range of up to 320 miles. For those seeking heightened performance, the long-range dual-motor variant, commencing at $55,300 (plus destination fee), offers an impressive 421 hp and 546 lb-ft of torque.
For enthusiasts yearning for the pinnacle of performance, the Plus or Performance pack options are available. The Performance pack boasts an enhanced 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of 4.1 seconds, complemented by distinctive “Swedish Gold” accents and other premium features.
The optional Plus Performance pack, priced at $2,200, encompasses an array of premium features, including a range-extending heat pump, a premium sound system by Harman Kardon, a panoramic moonroof embellished with a reflective Polestar emblem, and more.
As Polestar celebrates this remarkable milestone, it cements its status as an influential player in the ever-evolving electric vehicle landscape, driven by innovation and a commitment to sustainable mobility.
