Pohlbock eBock2: A Cutting-Edge Electric Dirt Bike for Performance Enthusiasts

Electric motorcycles have gained significant popularity in recent years, not only as practical scooters and commuters but also in off-road applications. Electric dirt bikes, including enduros, trail bikes, and motocrossers, have become increasingly sought-after due to their ability to address one of the biggest issues in powersports: noise pollution.

Thanks to rapid advancements in electric motor and battery technology, manufacturers have been able to achieve remarkable levels of performance from electric motors. A prime example of this progress is the Pohlbock eBock2, an electric off-road platform that showcases extraordinary capabilities. Developed from the ground up by German enthusiasts Romano Pohl and Florian Bockstaller, the eBock2 offers three configurations tailored for enduro, motocross, and supermoto riding.

The eBock2 stands out with its utilization of a unique axial flow motor, renowned for its significantly higher torque output compared to standard brushless electric motors. The motor’s functioning involves a slightly more intricate design, resulting in higher manufacturing costs. It incorporates two discs positioned alongside each other, while coils and magnets face each other, generating substantial torque as they rotate. This design offers several advantages, including higher energy density, improved cooling, and a narrower profile, making it ideal for motocross and enduro applications.

On paper, the Pohlbock eBock2 boasts performance comparable to a 350cc four-stroke machine, delivering 30 kilowatts (41 horsepower) of power. Even more impressive is the motor’s astonishing 160 Newton-meters of torque (approximately 112 pound-feet). The top speed is electronically limited to 62 miles per hour.

One intriguing feature of the eBock2, thanks to the motor’s high torque output, is a unique rear engine brake configuration. This system utilizes the motor’s torque to slow the bike down and is controlled through a hand lever, offering a similar feel to a hydraulic brake. However, riders can still opt for a more traditional braking system, such as a rear hydraulic disc brake.

In terms of the battery, Pohlbock has prioritized safety and environmental consciousness with the eBock2. It incorporates a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, which is cobalt-free and does not pose a fire hazard when damaged. LFP batteries are also known for their higher discharge current and greater number of charging cycles, resulting in an extended service life. Additionally, Pohlbock’s proprietary fast charging technology claims a charge time of less than one hour.

Undoubtedly, on paper, the Pohlbock eBock2 emerges as a state-of-the-art electric dirt bike that prioritizes high performance. However, such cutting-edge technology comes at a price. With a starting cost of 15,999 Euros, the eBock2 demands a considerable sum even from the most passionate of enthusiasts. Furthermore, the price can escalate significantly with the addition of optional features like the fast charger, larger battery, rear braking system, and reverse gear.
