British charging station provider Pod Point is making strategic moves to enhance its position in the home charging market through two significant partnerships. Mercedes-Benz UK has extended its exclusive collaboration with Pod Point, designating the British company as the preferred home charger supplier for all Mercedes-Benz electric and plug-in hybrid models until June 2026. Concurrently, Pod Point has entered a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Chinese battery manufacturer Gotion High-Tech, European EV battery startup InoBat, and battery technology company Brill Power to explore the development of a home battery solution.

Under the extended partnership with Mercedes-Benz, Pod Point will offer preferential rates on a 7kW home charger to Mercedes customers. The specific discount details were not disclosed. Additionally, Mercedes drivers can choose an exclusive charging tariff in collaboration with EDF, the majority stakeholder in Pod Point. The agreement reflects Pod Point’s commitment to supporting the diverse range of electric vehicles introduced by Mercedes-Benz.

In a separate strategic move, Pod Point, alongside Gotion High-Tech, InoBat, and Brill Power, aims to pool expertise for the development of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). The collaboration, outlined in the MOU, signifies a step forward in advancing home energy solutions. The companies involved will work together to create competitive and high-quality home battery solutions for residential customers. Andy Palmer, CEO of Pod Point, expressed enthusiasm for the collaboration, emphasizing its potential to contribute to the uptake of home energy solutions.

Pod Point, known for installing over 102,000 charge points in Great Britain and Norway, continues to expand its partnerships in the electric vehicle charging sector. The company has strategically positioned charging hubs at prominent retail locations, including collaborations with Tesco, Lidl, and Center Parcs. This multifaceted approach aligns with the broader trend of increasing investment and innovation in the electric vehicle charging infrastructure market.
