Milan-based Atlante, the joint venture between automaker Stellantis, NHOA Group, and Free2move eSolutions, has secured a substantial grant of nearly 50 million euros from the European Union. The funding aims to facilitate the installation of 5,000 fast-charging points by 2025 and a monumental 35,000 by 2030 across key Southern European regions, including Spain, Italy, France, and Portugal.

In a strategic move, Atlante has chosen Wallbox as its preferred partner for establishing this expansive charging network. The decision is attributed to Wallbox Charger’s notable production capacity and global leadership in manufacturing superfast chargers for electric vehicles (EVs). Barcelona-founded Wallbox has been a pivotal player in the EV charging sector since its establishment in 2015, marking significant industrialization strides in recent years.

Atlante’s charging network, designed in adherence to EU regulations, will follow primary transportation arteries in Southern Europe. The EU mandates at least one charge point per 60 kilometers on the core road network and one for every 100 kilometers on the Trans-European network. The network’s deployment will extend to parking lots and strategic urban areas, aligning with Atlante’s broader plans connected to Stellantis, announced in 2021.

As part of the collaboration, Wallbox will supply Atlante with its Supernova fast-charging stations, available in versions delivering 60 or 150 kW following a recent upgrade. The initiative contributes to Stellantis’ overarching plan to establish over 15,000 charging sites with two million parking spaces across Europe by 2025, accessible to the public.

Atlante, currently overseeing more than 3,500 charging points online and under construction, has been a recipient of approximately €73 million in grants from the European Union’s CEF 2 Transport – Alternative Fuel Infrastructure Facility program AFIF in 2022 and 2023.

Enric Asunción, CEO and co-founder of Wallbox, emphasized the strategic partnership with Atlante, expressing a shared long-term vision. The collaboration aims to provide customers with an optimal electric charging experience. The companies have a history of collaboration since Wallbox installed Atlante chargers in Italy last year.

Stefano Terranova, CEO of Atlante, acknowledged Wallbox’s commitment to delivering fast and ultra-fast charging solutions. He praised the quality of Wallbox’s products, emphasizing the exclusivity of their partnership in the fast-charging segment.
