French carmaker Peugeot has surprised car enthusiasts with the introduction of a facelifted version of its beloved 208 hatchback. While the previous model was already well-received, the updated version promises to surpass its predecessor in popularity, thanks to a range of visual and technological enhancements.
Peugeot’s design team started by giving the 208 a fresh front fascia. Inspired by the 9X8 Hypercar, the hatchback now boasts a distinctive light signature featuring three elongated vertical light claws that gracefully extend over gloss black bumper inserts. All variants of the 208 will come equipped with these new lights, while the GT model will feature extended full LED headlights that have also received an upgrade.
Beyond the front fascia, the facelifted 208 boasts a new LED light bar adorned with “three juxtaposed red claws.” Gloss black mirrors are now standard across all versions of the hatchback, and buyers can choose from an array of seven body colors, including Agueda Yellow, Selenium Grey, Artense Grey, Perla Black, Banquise White, Elixir Red, and Vertigo Blue. The GT version offers additional style options with black wheel arches and an optional black roof.
The visual updates continue with new 16-inch and 17-inch wheel designs, refreshed lettering on the front, side, and rear, and an updated interior featuring new seat fabrics, including black Alcantara with Adamite Green stitching. But the interior upgrades don’t stop there. Allure and GT models come standard with a 10-inch digital gauge cluster, while a 10-inch infotainment screen is now a standard feature across the entire 208 range. The steering wheel has also been revamped, showcasing the new Peugeot logo, and models equipped with the six-speed manual transmission receive a new shift knob.
Peugeot has also integrated its i-Connect system as a standard feature in the new 208, with the option to upgrade to the i-Connect Advanced infotainment system. Both systems are controlled via a new 10-inch display that supports wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Allure and GT models are equipped with three USB-C sockets, a more powerful wireless charger, and high-definition front and rear parking cameras.
Turning to powertrains, the all-electric E-208 takes center stage with a 51 kWh battery pack and a 156 hp electric motor. This impressive setup allows for a range of 400 km (248 miles) on the WLTP cycle. The E-208 comes standard with a 7.4 kW single-phase charger, while an optional 11 kW three-phase charger is available. Charging from 20% to 80% takes less than 25 minutes when using a fast charger.
For those who prefer traditional combustion engines, the 208 will be available in hybrid and internal combustion engine (ICE) versions. Hybrid models feature a 48-volt system paired with Peugeot’s PureTech 100 hp and 136 hp petrol engines. The ICE models offer a choice between a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine with 75 hp and a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine with 100 hp. The PureTech 75 comes with a 5-speed manual gearbox, while the PureTech 100 is equipped with a 6-speed manual.
In terms of safety, Peugeot has prioritized the well-being of its drivers and passengers. The new 208 includes a range of standard safety features such as adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, active lane departure warning, blind spot monitoring, and a driver attention alert system.
