Peugeot has introduced the E-5008 Dog Edition Concept, a one-off version of its all-electric SUV designed to explore how electric vehicles could better accommodate dog owners through dedicated accessories and software features.
Developed in collaboration with the Stellantis Design Studio, the concept is based on the five-seat Peugeot E-5008. The automaker said the vehicle is intended as a design study and is not currently planned for mass production.
Concept Focuses on Comfort for Dogs and Owners
The E-5008 Dog Edition includes a range of features aimed at making travel with pets more convenient.
Among them is a modular dog mat that can also be used as a dog bed outside the vehicle, along with a padded window cushion that allows dogs to comfortably rest their heads during journeys. The concept also features protective interior mats, integrated food and water bowls, and a connected dog harness.
Peugeot has also equipped the vehicle with a portable dog dryer powered by the vehicle’s vehicle-to-load (V2L) function. The dryer is stored beneath the luggage compartment floor and is intended to help dry pets after outdoor activities.
New Digital Features Support Pet Travel
In addition to physical accessories, Peugeot has developed several software functions tailored to dog owners.
The navigation system has been adapted to prioritize charging stops located near parks, green spaces or walking trails, allowing owners to combine charging sessions with exercise breaks for their pets.
A new “Dog Guardian Mode” monitors the cabin temperature when a dog is temporarily left inside the vehicle and can notify the owner if interior conditions require attention.
The concept also introduces a feature called “Dog Retriever,” which emits an audible signal intended to help guide a lost dog back to the vehicle.
Electric Powertrain Remains Unchanged
Peugeot said the Dog Edition Concept uses the same electric drivetrain and battery system as the standard E-5008. The company has not announced any changes to vehicle performance, battery capacity or charging specifications, emphasizing that the concept focuses exclusively on comfort and convenience features.
The concept reflects growing interest among pet owners in vehicles designed to accommodate companion animals. Citing research from IFOP, Peugeot said 64% of dog owners would like to travel on holiday with their dogs, while more than 60% said their pets influence their choice of travel destination.
Although Peugeot has not indicated whether any of the concept’s features will reach production models, the study highlights how functions such as vehicle-to-load technology could support a wider range of everyday uses beyond charging external electronic devices.
