Peugeot Confirms E-3008 and E-5008 Electric SUVs with Exceptional Range Up to 434 Miles

Peugeot is set to revolutionize the electric vehicle market with the launch of its next-generation E-3008 electric SUV. The model will be the first in the Stellantis empire to use the new STLA Medium platform, set to hit the market in the second half of 2023. The C-segment compact SUV was confirmed during Peugeot’s E-Lion Day presentation, and will offer consumers a choice of three different powertrains and an impressive electric range of up to 434 miles.

But Peugeot isn’t stopping there, as the E-3008 will be followed by an even larger E-5008 SUV, which will be released “shortly after.” The company has stated that both SUVs are being built primarily as EVs, but conceded that alternative drivetrain solutions may be necessary for markets that are still lagging behind in EV adoption. The STLA Medium platform, however, was designed primarily for fully electric vehicles, but has the flexibility to accommodate hybrid drivetrains as well.

Peugeot’s commitment to electric vehicles is evident in the launch of these two new models, and it’s exciting to see what else the company has in store for the future of sustainable transportation.

Peugeot plans to offer an electric version of every one of its models by 2025. According to the company’s CEO, Linda Jackson, the five EVs Peugeot has promised to build by 2025 will include an electric E-308 SW wagon. The EV wagon sector is currently tiny, with only MG offering competition, which could work out well for Peugeot. Both the hatch and wagon will be equipped with a new electric motor that develops 154 hp and promises a range of over 249 miles, as well as class-leading efficiency.

In addition to the E-308 SW wagon, Peugeot will also release an E-308 hatch, and an E-408, which is an electric version of the firm’s latest crossover. The automaker also plans to have 100 percent of the cars it sells in Europe by 2030 be full EVs. To bridge the gap between now and the end of the decade, Peugeot has also announced a new mild-hybrid engine line-up.

Models such as the 208, 2008, 308, 3008, 5008, and 408 will all benefit from a new drivetrain consisting of either 99 hp or 134 hp 1.2-liter PureTech gasoline engines driving the front wheels through a six-speed dual-clutch transmission containing a 28 hp electric motor. Peugeot claims the new motors deliver a 15 percent improvement in efficiency, can operate as an EV for 0.6 miles at a time, and allow a car like the 3008 to operate on electric power for around 50 percent of the time in city driving.
