Peterbilt, an US truck manufacturer, has announced its largest electric vehicle (EV) order to date. Swedish electric transport specialist Einride has placed an order for 150 of Peterbilt’s 579EV electric heavy-duty trucks, marking a significant step in the electrification of North America’s transport sector.
While Peterbilt manufactures its own range of electric trucks, including the Peterbilt 579EV and the medium-duty 220EV, Einride has opted to integrate Peterbilt’s technology platform with its trucks to enhance its service offerings in North America.
The Peterbilt 579EV, a Class 8 electric truck, boasts a gross combined vehicle weight rating of 82,000 lbs and can deliver up to 500 kW of power. It offers a range of 150 miles per charge, which can be achieved in around three hours using a 150 kW Level 3 charger. Alternatively, charging on a Level 2 charger, available as a 19.2 kW AC charging station, can take up to 18.5 hours. The truck’s battery is based on a 650-volt architecture with a total capacity of 400 kWh.
Under the new partnership, the Peterbilt trucks will be delivered to Einride’s US customers who have signed up for Einride’s turnkey Freight Capacity as a Service solution. Additionally, both companies will assist customers in identifying the best EV configuration for their operations, locating available incentives, and selecting from a range of PACCAR chargers and infrastructure solutions.
“Peterbilt is a leader in commercial vehicle electrification and offers the industry’s most complete lineup of electric vehicles,” said Jason Skoog, Peterbilt general manager and PACCAR vice president. “Our focus on creating reliable zero emissions solutions enables Einride to electrify end-user fleets and support reducing tailpipe emissions in the transportation industry. The Model 579EV is an example of that focus and is the flagship of the Peterbilt electric vehicle lineup.”
