Parkopedia has partnered with charging data aggregator Voltality to provide real-time electric vehicle charging information to automakers across Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore and Malaysia.
The collaboration will cover approximately 4,500 charging locations, 15,000 connectors and 23 charge point operators across the four Southeast Asian markets. The companies aim to provide carmakers with a standardized charging data stream that can be integrated into vehicle systems.
Aggregating Live Charging Data
Under the partnership, Voltality will aggregate live information from charging networks in each market and convert it into a consistent and verified data stream.
Parkopedia will then deliver the information to automotive manufacturers in what the company describes as “auto-grade” quality. The approach is intended to reduce the need for automakers to establish separate data agreements with individual charge point operators in each market.
The partners are particularly highlighting the potential benefits for Chinese automakers expanding into Southeast Asia. Parkopedia said Chinese OEMs can use the combined solution to avoid building local charging-data partnerships from the ground up.
Charge Point Operators Gain In-Car Visibility
The arrangement also provides a route for participating charge point operators to make their networks visible through vehicle infotainment and charging interfaces across the four markets.
Operators connecting to the Voltality network will not need to modify or replace their existing charging infrastructure, according to the companies.
Parkopedia Global Head of Partnerships Jaap van den Hoek said the partnership is intended to address the growing demand for charging infrastructure information as EV adoption expands across Southeast Asia.
“EV uptake across South East Asia is rapidly increasing, but infrastructure has historically lagged behind. Our partnership with Voltality allows us to provide high-quality, real-time charging data that removes this friction,” van den Hoek said.
He added that the service provides automakers with a localized solution for the region while supporting in-car digital experiences for EV drivers.
Kristoffer Jacek Soh, CEO at Voltality, added: “Chargers are only valuable when drivers know where these are, there is availability and drivers can park in that location. By connecting VoltNet to the platform drivers already trust in their vehicle, every operator on our network becomes visible when they are most needed.”
Parkopedia Expands Charging Data Services
The partnership builds on Parkopedia’s existing work integrating charging information into vehicle systems in other markets.
In 2023, Parkopedia partnered with Plugsurfing to integrate EV charging into its in-car payment system. The service allows drivers to locate charging stations and start and pay for charging through the vehicle interface.
The initial Plugsurfing integration covered more than 500,000 charging points across Europe.
The new Voltality partnership extends Parkopedia’s charging-data coverage into four Southeast Asian markets, providing automakers with a consolidated source of real-time charging information across multiple charging networks.
