Electronic mobility company Orbic showcased its groundbreaking 5G-enabled eBike at Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona this week, marking a significant advancement in smart transportation.

Orbic’s eBike, equipped with AI object detection and avoidance technology, is touted as the world’s first to leverage 5G connectivity, heralding what the company calls “a new era in smart transportation” with a strong focus on sustainability and rider safety.

The eBike continuously monitors its surroundings for obstacles and potential hazards, providing riders with real-time alerts if anything is detected. This innovative safety feature aims to enhance the overall riding experience and improve road safety.

“Introducing Orbicā€™s 5G e-Bike at MWC Barcelona is part of our innovation pipeline that implements advanced technology to expand connectivity and enhance user experiences,” said Mike Narula, CEO of Orbic. “By integrating 5G connectivity and AI technology, we aim to redefine the riding experience, making it safer, more connected, and environmentally responsible whether on city streets, in suburban neighborhoods, or the challenging terrain of mountain trails.”

Narula added, “The 5G e-Bike represents a significant leap forward in electronic mobility, and we are excited about bringing this new technology to cities across the globe.”

In addition to its cutting-edge safety features, the eBike is equipped with a touchscreen display that provides riders with essential information such as battery status, speed, distance, maps, and tracking.

“Bike-to-bike communication creates a fully immersive experience and communication between riders for increased safety and camaraderie,” according to Orbic. “Riders can also easily access real-time maps and tracking functionality, enabling riders to navigate their surroundings with precision.”

Furthermore, riders can livestream their journeys, share trail experiences, bookmark areas for revisiting, and access hotspots from the bikeā€™s 5G network, adding a new dimension to their riding adventures.
