Nissan has revealed its driver lineup, featuring the return of seasoned driver Oliver Rowland and the continuation of Sacha Fenestraz’s promising journey. Rowland, who initially joined Nissan as a rookie in 2018, is set to partner with Fenestraz, forming a partnership that holds considerable promise for the renowned Japanese manufacturer’s Formula E endeavors.
Rowland’s previous stints with Nissan spanned Seasons 5 to 7, where his impressive performance included securing five pole positions and clinching five podium finishes, culminating in a triumphant victory in Berlin in 2020. Hailing from Barnsley, the 31-year-old driver boasts an illustrious racing portfolio, crowned by his 2015 Formula Renault 3.5 Series title and a commendable third-place finish in the 2017 FIA Formula 2 championship.
Reflecting on his return, Rowland expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “I’m really excited, it’s a bit of a homecoming for me, back to the place I started my Formula E journey and somewhere I had a lot of success.” He also voiced his confidence in his partnership with Sacha Fenestraz, highlighting the latter’s impressive debut season.
On the other hand, Sacha Fenestraz, following a promising Season 9, is set to continue his growth trajectory with the Nissan Formula E Team. The 24-year-old driver showcased his adaptability to Formula E machinery during his rookie year, notably securing pole position and the fastest Formula E lap ever recorded at the Cape Town E-Prix in only his fifth race with the team. He further solidified his capabilities with a fastest lap in Monaco and consistent front-running performances.
Fenestraz articulated his excitement about the forthcoming season, stating, “I’m extremely excited to continue my journey with Nissan Formula E Team. I’ll attack this season with a new approach as it will be my second year in the championship.” He emphasized his eagerness to build on the achievements of his maiden year and to vie for positive results throughout the upcoming season.
Team boss Tomasso Volpe expressed his contentment with the driver lineup, acknowledging Rowland’s talent and experience and Fenestraz’s burgeoning potential. Volpe underlined the team’s determination to make further strides in the championship, building on their insights from the previous year.
The announcement also carried a note of appreciation for Norman Nato, who played a pivotal role in the team’s performance during Season 9. The team expressed gratitude for Nato’s efforts and wished him success in his future endeavors.
As Nissan gears up for its second year racing in the Formula E series, the driver lineup and their combined expertise present a promising outlook for the upcoming season, marking yet another chapter in the brand’s pursuit of excellence in the world of electric racing.
