Porsche has announced its decision to prolong its involvement in Formula E, confirming its participation in the electric racing series beyond the current agreement, which ends in 2026. The Stuttgart-based sports car manufacturer will continue competing in Formula E from Season 13 (2026/2027) onwards, coinciding with the introduction of the fourth generation of vehicles.

Initially joining Formula E in 2019 with a commitment until the 2023/2024 season, Porsche extended its involvement last summer by two years, showcasing its dedication to the electric racing series. While the exact duration of Porsche’s renewed commitment has not been specified, it is expected to be a multi-year project, likely until at least season 15 or 16, to make the development of its own drive system for the Gen4 vehicles worthwhile.

The decision to extend its Formula E involvement is driven by Porsche’s recognition of the development potential and technological advancements in e-mobility showcased by the racing series. The upcoming Gen4 vehicles are set to offer further development freedom, with Porsche highlighting that the knowledge gained from racing directly contributes to the advancement of its sports cars.

Commenting on the decision, Michael Steiner, Member of the Executive Board for Research and Development at Porsche AG, stated, “The evolution of racing vehicles shows how much development potential there is in e-mobility. Going forward, we want to glean even more knowledge from Formula E that we can transfer to our roadgoing sports cars.”

Formula E CEO Jeff Dodds expressed excitement about Porsche’s extended commitment, stating, “With their unwavering commitment and innovative spirit, we are thrilled to announce that Porsche will continue to be a cornerstone of our championship for at least another four years.”

The upcoming Gen4 vehicles in Formula E are expected to feature increased drive power, with the output set to be raised to 600 kW, and the possibility of recuperation with up to 700 kW. Porsche views Formula E as a crucial platform for technological excellence and intends to leverage its participation to further enhance its road car offerings.
