Indian electric bus manufacturer Olectra Greentech Limited has deployed 60 new electric buses in Hyderabad, expanding the fleet operated by the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC).

The rollout also involves Evey Trans Private Limited, an electric bus operator and sister company of Olectra Greentech. The buses are expected to be operated under a Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model, similar to a previous deployment of 65 electric buses introduced in December 2025.

The new vehicles were officially flagged off at the Kukatpally depot on May 27 by Telangana Transport Minister Ponnam Prabhakar, TGSRTC Vice Chairman and Managing Director Y. Nagi Reddy, and other public representatives.

Electric Bus Fleet Reaches 500 Units

According to Megha Engineering and Infrastructures Limited (MEIL), the parent company of Olectra Greentech and Evey Trans, the latest deployment increases TGSRTC’s electric bus fleet to 500 vehicles.

Local media reports indicate that 450 of the electric buses currently operating in the fleet are non-air-conditioned models, while the remaining 50 are air-conditioned vehicles.

The expansion forms part of broader efforts by state authorities and transport operators to increase the use of electric public transport across Telangana.

Olectra X2 Specifications

The newly deployed buses are based on Olectra’s X2 electric bus platform.

The model measures 12 meters in length, 2.5 meters in width and 3.3 meters in height, with a floor height of 400 mm. Olectra says the X2 can accommodate up to 39 passengers, although images from the deployment ceremony suggest the configuration supplied to TGSRTC includes approximately 30 seats.

The bus is powered by a 180-kW electric motor paired with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack. According to the manufacturer, the vehicle can achieve a driving range of up to 300 kilometers on a single charge.

For passenger comfort and accessibility, the X2 is equipped with front and rear air suspension systems as well as a kneeling mechanism designed to facilitate boarding and alighting.

Ridership Expected to Increase

MEIL said the 440 electric buses previously operating within the TGSRTC network were carrying nearly 100,000 passengers per day.

With the addition of the latest 60 vehicles, the company expects daily ridership across the electric fleet to increase to around 120,000 passengers.
