Octopus Energy has partnered with Uber to provide 1,000 of its ride-share drivers in the UK with free home Ohme ePod chargers, including installation, if they sign up for the company’s Intelligent Octopus Go electric vehicle tariff.
The £900 charger offer is available to Uber drivers with a recent record of electric vehicle trips or proof of a new EV order. Drivers must be new or existing Octopus customers eligible for the Go tariff and able to install the charger at home. Other requirements include having a smart meter, off-street parking and meeting installation feasibility checks.
The Intelligent Octopus Go tariff allows customers to charge EVs automatically during off-peak hours at £0.07/kWh, with six hours of reduced-cost energy for the rest of the home. Octopus also offers a £30 per month Intelligent Drive Pack subscription for unlimited smart charging of a single EV.
Uber aims to operate a fully electric fleet in London, its top global location for “electric miles”. “Uber drivers are leading the way in switching to EVs, embracing cleaner vehicles much faster than the general public,” said Andrew Brem, General Manager of Uber UK. “But one of the biggest barriers they continue to face is access to affordable and reliable charging. This partnership with Octopus helps tackle that, making it easier for more drivers to go electric across the UK.”
Rebecca Dibb-Simkin, Chief Product and Marketing Officer at Octopus Energy, said: “With over a third of Uber drivers already feeling the benefits of EVs, we’re making it even easier for more drivers to go electric. By offering a smart charging tech bundle that does the hard work for them, Uber drivers can get real savings, and offer customers a smoother ride and next level service.”
