Porsche wants to increase its activity in the e-bike segment. To this end, the two joint ventures founded by Porsche and the Dutch company Ponooc Investment B.V. start his business.

Porsche eBike Performance GmbH, based in Ottobrunn will develop an electric drive system for two-wheeled vehicles. This includes the motor, battery and software architecture required for the connectivity solution.

Stuttgart-based P2 eBike GmbH intends to use the drive system to launch a new generation of Porsche e-bikes by the middle of this decade.

This joint project for Porsche and Ponooc was demonstrated by the appointment of a management team. Jan Becker, former CEO of Porsche Lifestyle GmbH & Co. KG, takes over as chairman of the management of Porsche eBike Performance GmbH. His partner at P2 eBike GmbH is Moritz Failenschmid, who is also Managing Director at Focus Bikes.

“We see Porsche’s great potential in the e-bike segment. This is why we are consistently expanding our activities in this area,” said Lutz Meschke, Deputy Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG and Member of the Executive Board for Finance and IT.

In addition to the compact drive system from Fazua, Porsche eBike Performance GmbH will develop and manufacture the e-bike drive system under the Porsche name.

Both product categories will be distributed to e-bike manufacturers worldwide. The electric drive system will be used in Porsche e-bikes as well as other brand products.

In recent months, Porsche has acquired stakes in several companies in the e-bike segment.

In June, Porsche increased its stake in the company from 20 to 100 percent. Based in Munich, Fazua is known among experts as the founder of the e-bike.

Despite the combined business activities, Porsche continues to work with its longtime partner, Rotwild, on current e-bike models. In March 2021, the company launched an exclusive electric bike interpretation with the Porsche eBike Sport and Porsche eBike Cross.

In addition, Porsche Digital GmbH offers a platform for digital services related to cycling under the CyklĂŠr brand.
