Nio’s compact premium brand Firefly has delivered 20,000 vehicles since its launch in April, doubling its total in just over two months after reaching the 10,000 mark in late July.
The milestone, announced on Firefly’s Weibo account on Sunday, indicates that 5,445 vehicles have been delivered so far in September, putting the brand on pace for a new monthly record. Firefly’s hatchback, available in two trims starting at RMB 119,800 ($16,800), is positioned to compete with Mini and Smart in China’s crowded small EV market.
Deliveries began on April 29, with 231 units sold in the first two days. The brand reached 10,000 deliveries on July 26 and expanded into Europe in mid-August. In August, Firefly delivered 4,346 vehicles, an 83.7% increase from July, bringing its cumulative total to 14,555 by the end of the month.
Nio overall delivered 31,305 vehicles in August, surpassing its previous monthly record set last December. Firefly’s contribution has become increasingly significant as the sub-brand builds momentum alongside Nio’s other marque, Onvo.
Nio is expected to release September delivery figures on October 1. Deutsche Bank has forecast a record 35,000 units across its three brands, with deliveries projected at around 15,000 each for Nio and Onvo, and 5,000 for Firefly.
