Firefly, the Nio sub-brand, sold out its limited-edition Firefly EV within 30 hours of launch, underscoring demand for its flexible sales strategy.

“30 hours, Nomadic Maillard Edition sold out!” Firefly president Daniel Jin said in his WeChat status on Tuesday. “Thank you all for your support. We aim to build the world’s best small car!”

The “Nomadic Maillard” edition went on sale on Aug. 25 with 333 units available for immediate delivery. Inspired by warm brown tones, the special edition featured a low-saturation color palette, exclusive decals, and unique wheel designs, displayed at Nio stores across 48 cities.

Pricing for the model started at 133,800 yuan ($18,680), 14,000 yuan higher than the base variant. Under the Battery as a Service (BaaS) plan, the version began at 93,800 yuan plus a monthly rental fee of 399 yuan.

Firefly introduced its first EV on Apr. 19, with deliveries in China starting Apr. 29 and later expanding to Norway and the Netherlands earlier this month.

Local media outlet AutoPix reported that Firefly plans to launch another special edition model in China based on its European version, likely to debut at Nio Day 2025 in September alongside the third-generation Nio ES8.
