According to Nio, the latest iteration of NOMI has undergone 132 version updates and introduced over 2,000 features to users. The incorporation of large model technology is expected to significantly enhance NOMI’s integration with the vehicle experience.

The AI large model integration will empower NOMI with enhanced emotional expression and intelligence, marking a significant advancement in Nio’s smart cockpit technology, the company stated.

Nio is actively seeking applicants with a deep understanding of AI technology, a penchant for providing feedback, or professional experience in review processes. The application deadline is March 12 at 12 pm Beijing Time, with selected applicants required to complete an online training session to receive the beta version of the software.

GPT, or Generative Pre-trained Transformer, is a technology that predicts the probability of the next word appearing, allowing for the generation of words based on a probability distribution with each call.

As interest in AI technologies like ChatGPT grows globally, several Chinese tech giants have made significant strides in the field. Nio, for instance, applied for trademarks related to GPT in May 2023, including NOMI GPT and Knowme GPT.

Nio introduced NOMI in 2017 alongside the launch of its first production vehicle, the ES8, deriving the acronym from the English phrase “Know Me.” NOMI allows Nio vehicle owners to perform tasks such as playing music, navigating, making phone calls, taking photos, and locating battery swap stations through voice commands.

William Li, Nio’s founder, chairman, and CEO, highlighted NOMI GPT’s potential to enhance the competitiveness of its existing products during an analyst call on March 5 following the company’s earnings announcement.

The rollout of NOMI GPT coincides with Nio’s recent deliveries of updated models, including the ES8, EC7, ES6, EC6, and ET5 Touring, in several Chinese cities on March 8. The 2024 Nio models feature the new central computing platform, ADAM, powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon’s fourth-generation cockpit chip, the SA8295P, providing significantly improved computing power compared to the previous generation.
