Chinese electric vehicle (EV) manufacturer NIO continued to demonstrate robust performance in its August deliveries, despite a slight decline compared to its record-breaking July figures.

According to data released by the company, NIO successfully delivered 19,329 vehicles in August, marking a notable 81.03 percent increase when compared to the same month last year. However, it saw a modest 5.54 percent dip in deliveries compared to July’s impressive record of 20,462 vehicles. Despite this decline, August’s deliveries still secured the second-highest monthly figure in the company’s history.

NIO’s August deliveries comprised 12,015 sport utility vehicles (SUVs) and 7,314 sedans. The company did not provide specific breakdowns for individual model deliveries.

The NIO product lineup includes the ES8, ES7, ES6, EC7, ET7, ET5, and ET5 Touring, with the first four being SUV models and the latter three being sedans.

In the period spanning from January to August this year, NIO achieved a total of 94,352 vehicle deliveries, representing a robust 31.86 percent year-on-year growth.

As of August 31, NIO’s cumulative deliveries since its inception have reached an impressive milestone of 383,908 vehicles.

The slight drop in deliveries during August may be attributed to a brief production halt at NIO’s F1 plant, which occurred from late July to early August for essential upgrades.

Local media outlet Caixin reported that NIO’s F1 plant underwent a five-day production halt from July 29 to August 2 to facilitate a production line upgrade.

NIO’s vehicle manufacturing operations are based in Hefei, Anhui province, in eastern China, and encompass two key facilities: the F1 plant and the JAC NIO advanced manufacturing base, along with the F2 plant in NeoPark.

Originally, both the older ES6 and ES8 models were produced at the F1 plant. However, to optimize production capacity, the F1 plant now primarily focuses on manufacturing the new ES6, while production of the upgraded ES8 has been relocated to the F2 plant, as reported by Caixin.

Caixin’s report further detailed that NIO was witnessing a production rate of at least 300 ES6 vehicles daily, with certain workshops transitioning from single-shift to two-shift production schedules.

Looking ahead, NIO has announced plans to introduce and commence deliveries of the EC6, a newly upgraded mid-size coupe SUV, in September. This launch will mark the completion of a full product switchover based on the NT 2.0 platform, as revealed during an analyst call on August 29, following the announcement of the company’s second-quarter earnings results.

NIO has set ambitious expectations for its third-quarter deliveries, targeting a range of 55,000 to 57,000 units. This guidance suggests a year-on-year growth rate ranging from approximately 74.0 percent to 80.3 percent.
