Last year, Nio secured two investments from Abu Dhabi’s CYVN Holdings, making the Middle Eastern investor its largest shareholder, though the company’s founder and CEO, William Li, retains the majority of voting rights. On October 4, Nio entered into an agreement with CYVN to establish a joint venture, Nio MENA, which aims to introduce Nio and its sub-branded models to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) market.
The UAE has been identified as the initial market for Nio MENA, with plans to position the region as a leader in advanced autonomous driving systems and battery swap technologies. The partnership with CYVN will also involve a new EV project focused on research, manufacturing, and future product launches.
Additionally, Nio and CYVN plan to set up a research and development center in Abu Dhabi dedicated to advancements in autonomous driving and artificial intelligence. Nio is set to begin deliveries in the UAE in the fourth quarter of this year, aiming to offer its full range of services to users in the MENA region from its UAE base.
Currently, Nio’s vehicles are available in select overseas markets, including Germany, Sweden, the Netherlands, and Norway, as it seeks to expand its global presence in the smart EV ecosystem.
