NIO officially opened Germany’s first battery swap station on September 28. The opening of the battery swap station comes even before the Chinese electric vehicle maker officially enters the German electric vehicle market on October 7.
To open a battery swap station in Germany, NIO partnered with Sortimo, the operator of one of the largest and most modern charging parks in Europe.
NIO first battery swap station in Germany is located in Zusmarshausen. NIO will perform the final testing and calibration of the battery swap station. Construction of the battery swap station started in June 2022 with German installation partner TSG, has been completed after three months of construction. This station is the size of two garages and is targeted to be able to serve 312 swaps per day.
“NIO is the first OEM in Germany to build a standardized functional power exchange system for all NIO models and allows for fully automatic battery change in five minutes,” said Ralph Kranz, managing director of NIO Germany.
Sortimo provided NIO with technical support for the battery swap station such as network connections and planning with its specialist partners Steinbach, Dobler and KE ALM, said Daniel Medawar of the NIO Power team.
NIO is stepping up its efforts in Europe and is expected to launch the ET7, ET5 and ES7 at the NIO Berlin 2022 event on October 7, local time in Europe.
Later this year, NIO’s integrated electric vehicles and services will be available in Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden and Denmark, Qin added.
So far, NIO has officially announced two battery exchange stations in Norway, and Germany’s battery exchange station is the third the company has announced for overseas markets.
