The shutdown of NIO production activity seems very short term. A Nio insider who did not want to be named told the Economic Observer that NIO’s Hefei plant is preparing to gradually resume production.

The shutdown of Nio’s production activity doesn’t look like Tesla’s that lasted from late last month and there’s still no sign of a restart.

“The production of NIO vehicles was stopped last Saturday due to supply chain impacts. Currently, the supply chain is recovering slightly and the Hefei production base is gradually resuming production,” the source said.

“As for future production plans, it depends on how the supply chain recovers,” the person said.

Car manufacturers located in Jilin and Shanghai, such as FAW Group, Tesla, and SAIC Group, were forced to close their production due to the lockdown imposed by the local government.

NIO’s production base is located in Hefei, which was not directly affected by the lockdown. The impact is more on production disruptions due to spare parts supply.

On April 9, NIO had suspended production as partners in the supply chain halted production due to the COVID-19 lockdown.

Since March, NIO’s supply chain partners in Jilin, Shanghai, Jiangsu and many other locations have suspended production due to the Covid outbreak and have not resumed, it said in a statement.

Tesla’s Shanghai factory has been closed since March 28, and there is no information on the timing of the resumption of production.
