Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio has reached a new milestone in Shanghai, bringing the total number of battery swap stations in the city to 200, the company said on Saturday.
The latest facility, which went live on December 28, is located within a Sinopec-operated service station and forms part of Nio’s broader effort to expand its energy infrastructure in key urban markets.

Shanghai now hosts the largest concentration of Nio’s battery swap facilities, accounting for more than 200 of the company’s total network. The eastern Chinese metropolis, home to around 25 million people, is also one of Nio’s most active markets. The automaker said it has delivered about 100,000 vehicles in the city as of April this year and has completed roughly 10.4 million battery swap services there to date.
The company’s chief financial officer, Stanly Qu, previously said that utilization levels in Shanghai remain among the highest in the country, with “the vast majority” of the city’s swap stations handling more than 100 services per day. Nio has expanded its network through partnerships with energy groups including Sinopec, China National Petroleum Corp and China National Offshore Oil Corporation, in addition to Shell.

Nationwide, Nio operates 3,655 battery swap stations, including 1,008 located along highways, and has added 660 new stations so far this year, slightly below last year’s expansion pace. The company also runs 4,849 charging stations across China and provides access to more than 1.48 million third-party charging points through its integrated charging map, underscoring its push to build a comprehensive energy ecosystem to support its growing electric vehicle fleet.
