Nio has delivered the 10,000th unit of its flagship ES9 electric sport utility vehicle (SUV), reaching the milestone approximately one month after customer deliveries began.
The company announced the achievement on Friday after automotive blogger Wu Ying first shared the milestone on Weibo. Nio founder, chairman and chief executive officer William Li attended the delivery ceremony.
The 10,000th ES9 was delivered to Li Ningchuan, founder, chairman and general manager of electric vehicle components manufacturer Zhejiang EV-Tech, who is also an existing Nio owner.
Strong Early Demand
The milestone indicates that Nio delivered 6,892 ES9 units during the current month, following 3,108 deliveries in the model’s launch month.
Nio officially launched the ES9 on May 27, with customer deliveries beginning the following day.
The achievement aligns with comments made earlier this month by Nio Vice President of Branding and Communications Ma Lin, who said the company expected the ES9 to surpass 10,000 deliveries before the end of June.
Premium Positioning
The ES9 starts at 498,000 yuan (US$73,260), making it one of the highest-priced electric vehicles offered by a domestic Chinese automotive brand.
Customers choosing Nio’s Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscription model can purchase the vehicle from 390,000 yuan.
Higher-specification versions are equipped with dual Shenji NX9031 intelligent driving processors and the company’s SkyRide active suspension system, supporting advanced driver assistance and ride performance.
Growing Order Backlog
Strong customer demand has resulted in extended delivery waiting periods.
According to Deutsche Bank, the ES9 had accumulated more than 25,000 non-cancellable customer orders as of June 8.
Customers ordering higher-end versions equipped with the SkyRide suspension system currently face estimated delivery times of between 16 and 17 weeks.
Supporting Earnings Growth
Deutsche Bank said strong deliveries of Nio’s higher-margin SUV models are expected to support continued non-GAAP profitability during the second quarter of 2026.
The investment bank forecasts Nio will report approximately 180 million yuan in second-quarter non-GAAP net profit and has increased its full-year 2026 ES9 delivery forecast to 56,000 vehicles.
Meanwhile, Nio’s ES8 continues to perform strongly.
The third-generation ES8 reached its 120,000th customer delivery in Shanghai on June 22 after recording 11,475 deliveries in May, marking its seventh consecutive month above the 10,000-unit threshold.
During the first five months of 2026, the ES8 delivered a cumulative 69,690 vehicles, representing 46.3% of Nio’s total deliveries over the period.
The company is continuing to expand its product lineup and plans to open pre-orders for a new five-seat version of the ES8, further strengthening its presence in China’s premium electric SUV market.
