Nio has reached a significant milestone in its battery swap service, completing its 50 millionth battery swap as of August 5, 11:33 pm Beijing time.
The achievement means that Nioās battery swap stations have collectively delivered 2.62 billion kWh of electricity, equivalent to powering over 1.31 million households for one year. The company reports that nearly 60% of the energy used by Nio vehicles now comes from these battery swap stations.

Nio’s battery swap service has reportedly saved users more than 2.85 billion minutes compared to conventional public charging, and has generated savings of over RMB 20.3 billion yuan ($2.85 billion) compared to gasoline vehicles. This equates to an average saving of RMB 36,000 yuan per Nio user.
Currently, Nio operates 2,464 battery swap stations in China, with 825 located along highways. The company’s stations have averaged 79,000 battery swaps per day this month, with a battery swap occurring approximately every 1.1 seconds.
Nio launched its first battery swap station in Shenzhen on May 20, 2018. Since then, the company has seen rapid growth in its service. It took 29 months to reach one million swaps, and the service reached the 10 million mark by July 4, 2022. The 20 millionth milestone was achieved on April 3, 2023, the 30 millionth on October 9, 2023, and the 40 millionth on March 14, 2024.
