The Canoo EV has been introduced for use by the Artemis program that will take astronauts to the moon. NASA is now testing the Canoo EV to transport its astronauts all the way to Launchpad, as reported by Space Explored.
The Canoo EV has arrived at the Kennedy Space Center and will conduct a test run between Neil Armstrong Operations and the Checkout building to the Launchpad area. The astronauts on the Artemis mission will be launched from Launchpad LC-39B using a Space Launch System (SLS) rocket.
NASA last year invited automakers to supply Crew Transport vehicles to be used for the Artemis mission. The Canoo EV was finally selected for it. In the past, NASA astronauts were transported to Launchpad using modified Clark-Cortez cars, Suncruiser Itasca, and Airstream Excella.
Previously, SpaceX used a Tesla Model X to transport astronauts to the LC-39A site. Meanwhile Boeing chose to design a successor to the Astrovan with Airstream.
Canoo’s contract with NASA is worth $150,000 and will supply the SUV Lifestyle Vehicle which has a range of 250 miles. Previously Walmart to purchase 4,500 units from Canoo which will be used for its delivery fleet.
