Mitsubishi Motors will begin sales of an updated version of its Outlander Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) in Canada in March, adding a larger battery, longer electric-only range and upgraded standard equipment to its best-selling model in the country.
Mitsubishi Motor Sales of Canada (MMSCAN) said the revised Outlander PHEV features a 22.7 kilowatt-hour drive battery, an increase of about 13% from the previous version. The upgrade extends the model’s electric-only driving range to 72 kilometres, an 18% improvement, based on official ratings from Natural Resources Canada (NRCan).

Mitsubishi said the latest changes are aimed at increasing daily electric driving capability while maintaining long-distance flexibility through the vehicle’s hybrid system. The Outlander PHEV remains the brand’s flagship model in Canada.
In addition to the powertrain update, Mitsubishi has introduced chassis refinements, including revised suspension components and newly specified tyres, to improve ride comfort and stability. A premium audio system developed in collaboration with Yamaha Corporation is now standard across all trim levels.
Canada is Mitsubishi’s largest market globally for the Outlander PHEV. The model has been the country’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle for three consecutive years from 2023 to 2025, according to company data. Mitsubishi attributes much of the demand to the vehicle’s twin-motor four-wheel-drive layout and its Super All-Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, features designed to provide traction and stability in severe winter conditions.

Since its global debut in 2013 as the world’s first plug-in hybrid SUV, the Outlander PHEV has recorded cumulative sales of about 430,000 units across more than 60 countries.
Following the Canadian launch, Mitsubishi plans to roll out the updated model in other markets, including the United States, Mexico, Australia, New Zealand and Chile, during the company’s 2026 fiscal year, which runs from April 2026 to March 2027.
