Milence has opened a new electric truck charging hub in Temse, Belgium, featuring four megawatt charging system (MCS) chargers capable of delivering up to 1.5 MW each. The site is the joint venture’s 39th operational charging hub in Europe and its fifth in Belgium, adding high-power charging capacity to a major logistics region between Antwerp and Ghent.
The Temse facility has eight truck charging bays. Four are equipped with both MCS and combined charging system (CCS) connectors, while the remaining four offer CCS charging only. The CCS chargers can provide up to 400 kW, while the MCS equipment supports charging power of up to 1,500 kW.
Four Megawatt Chargers Mark Milence First
Temse is Milence’s fourth European location to feature MCS technology, following sites in Antwerp, Zwolle and Landvetter. Those three locations each have one MCS charger with a maximum charging capacity of 1.2 MW.
The new Belgian hub expands that capacity with four MCS chargers rated at up to 1.5 MW each, marking a first for Milence in terms of the number and power rating of megawatt chargers at a single site.
The charging systems were supplied by Spanish manufacturer Power Electronics. Milence has also indicated that it plans to deploy megawatt chargers from its hardware partner Alpitronic at future locations.
Strategic Location for European Freight Transport
Located between Antwerp and Ghent, Temse sits within Belgium’s major port and logistics region. Milence describes the site as an important node on a Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) corridor connecting the North Sea with the Mediterranean.
The location is intended to support electric heavy-duty trucks operating between key Belgian logistics centres and destinations elsewhere in Europe. High-power charging could help reduce charging stops for compatible vehicles, although actual charging times will depend on vehicle capabilities, battery conditions and other operational factors.
Drivers using the hub can access sanitary facilities, vending machines and outdoor seating during charging sessions.
Charging Prices and Fleet Agreements
Milence’s ad-hoc charging prices in Belgium start at €0.379 per kilowatt-hour, excluding VAT, for both CCS and MCS charging. Customers can also enter into volume-based agreements to access lower rates.
The pricing structure provides an option for operators that need occasional charging as well as fleets seeking to manage costs across more regular charging activity.
Temse Joins the MACBETH Megawatt Charging Project
Milence now has 39 operational charging hubs across Europe, with another 11 under construction. The Temse location will also form part of the MACBETH project, which brings together industry partners to address the technical, societal and economic challenges involved in deploying megawatt charging systems at scale.
Lars Minekus, Regional Manager for the Nordics, Benelux and UK at Milence, said:
“The opening of our fifth charging hub in Belgium marks another step in the development of a reliable European charging network for electric trucks. With Temse, we are not only strengthening an important logistics connection between Antwerp, Ghent and the rest of Europe, but also actively contributing to the further development of megawatt charging.”
Through its participation in MACBETH, Milence will contribute to wider efforts to advance the deployment of high-power charging infrastructure for electric trucks. The Temse hub combines this development work with a new operational site serving freight transport in one of Europe’s important port and logistics regions.
