MG’s Electric Roadster, Cyberster, Set to Launch in April with Impressive Specs and Sleek Design

MG, a brand owned by the Chinese automaker SAIC, is set to release its highly anticipated electric roadster, the Cyberster, by the end of this month. This news comes after the Ministry of Information and Technology (MIIT) approved pictures and technical data of the vehicle ahead of its premiere at the Shanghai Auto Show.

The Cyberster was first introduced as a concept two years ago and generated significant interest, with over 5,000 people registering on a crowdfunding platform shortly after its unveiling. MG Motor then announced plans for a series version of the roadster, but news about the vehicle had been scarce until now.

The production version of the Cyberster retains the basic design of the 2021 study, albeit with a toned-down aesthetic that differs from the radical look of the concept car. The front of the vehicle features characteristic radiator openings, while the rear boasts independently designed LED taillights that give the car an unmistakable look. The Cyberster is also quite long for a two-seater roadster, measuring 4.54 metres in length and boasting a wheelbase of 2.69 metres. This length is likely necessary to accommodate a large and powerful battery.

Although details about the battery are currently unknown, data about the drive have been released. The Cyberster is set to come with a 231 kW electric motor on the rear axle in the entry-level version. The top model will have a 250 kW version of the same motor, supplemented by the 150 kW motor on the front axle that is found in the MG4. The all-wheel drive model will reportedly have over 400 kW of power and be able to accelerate to 100 km/h in approximately three seconds.

It is currently unknown how much the Cyberster will cost or whether it will be available for purchase outside of China. Nonetheless, the release of the electric roadster is an exciting development for MG and the electric vehicle market as a whole. With its sleek design and impressive performance, the Cyberster is sure to turn heads and capture the attention of automotive enthusiasts.
