The MG4 EV is undergoing a significant redesign just three years after its initial release, with a larger body, new styling, and a revised electric drivetrain. The updated model is 11 cm longer than its predecessor, featuring a 4.5 cm longer wheelbase, and incorporates a new electric powertrain.
According to leaked specifications from Chinese regulatory filings, the revamped MG4 EV measures 4,395 mm in length, 1,842 mm in width, and 1,551 mm in height, making it larger in all dimensions than the current MG4 Electric. The vehicle’s weight has also been reduced to 1,485 kg, down from 1,620 kg. The exterior has been redesigned with sculpted fenders, a roof spoiler, a continuous LED strip connecting the taillights, and conventional door handles replacing the previous flush design.

Power output has been slightly adjusted, with the new MG4 EV featuring a 120 kW electric motor, down from the 125 kW unit in the current model. Despite the marginal decrease in power, the top speed remains at 160 km/h. Battery specifications have not been disclosed, but the range is expected to be similar to the existing model’s 218-mile rating.
The current MG4 Electric is available in multiple configurations, including a Long Range variant with a 64 kWh battery offering 288 miles of range and an Extended Range edition featuring a 77 kWh battery capable of 329 miles. An Xpower version with dual motors provides increased power but a reduced 245-mile range. MG has not confirmed whether the new model will retain the same trim structure, though a variety of powertrain options is expected.

The new MG4 EV is slated to launch this summer, with international markets likely to receive the model shortly after its debut in China. The previous MG4 Electric had a starting price of €28,990 in Europe, though pricing details for the updated version remain undisclosed.
Produced by SAIC, which acquired MG in 2005, the MG4 Electric has struggled to gain traction in China, selling just 13 units in February amid stiff competition from models like the BYD Dolphin and Geely Xingyuan. As a result, SAIC is shifting its focus to overseas markets such as Europe, Thailand, and India, where the MG brand enjoys stronger recognition.
