MG Motor, a subsidiary of Chinese automaker SAIC, is preparing to expand its electric vehicle portfolio with a new C-segment electric SUV. While the vehicle has not yet been officially unveiled, the model is widely believed to be called the MG S6 EV, following a recent trademark application and design registration in Europe.
According to comments made in an interview with British publication Auto Express, the new electric SUV is intended to compete with models such as the Renault Scenic E-Tech, Volkswagen ID.4, and Nissan Ariya. Positioned between the MG S5 EV and IM6, the upcoming model is part of MG’s broader strategy to explore new segments in the EV market.
MG UK’s Head of Product and Planning, David Allison, indicated that the design of the new SUV will align more closely with the MG S5 EV than with the IM5 or IM6, suggesting a focus on accessible, practical design rather than more futuristic or luxury-inspired approaches.
While technical details remain under wraps, the MG S5 EV—believed to serve as a design and performance reference—offers a 49 kWh battery with a standard range of up to 340 km, or 480 km with the larger battery option. The S5 EV also supports up to 120 kW DC fast charging and includes powertrain options from 125 kW to 170 kW. Its price in the UK currently starts at £28,495.
MG has not confirmed a timeline for the new SUV’s release. However, the company suggested that its alternative to the ID.4 is unlikely to arrive in the UK market for at least two years, pointing to a potential launch window beyond 2026.
