Legendary heavy metal band Metallica is set to embark on their “M72 World Tour” in a groundbreaking fashion, opting for electric trucks and vehicles provided by partner Iveco for their European shows from May to July 2024. This move marks a significant step towards sustainability for the band, as they aim to reduce the carbon footprint of their tours.

Iveco, a leading manufacturer of heavy-duty trucks, will supply their electric S-eWay trucks for transporting Metallica’s equipment between concerts. These trucks are available in both purely battery-electric and fuel cell variants, with both drive systems being utilized for the tour. Regardless of the variant, all equipment will be transported solely by electric power.

In addition to the S-eWay trucks, Iveco’s eDaily model will serve as a shuttle vehicle for the crew, further contributing to the tour’s eco-friendly approach. While it is not confirmed whether the musicians themselves will travel in electric vehicles, Iveco CEO Gerrit Marx stated that Metallica is committed to reducing the environmental impact of their tours.

The partnership between Metallica and Iveco, which began in November, originally included the use of natural gas trucks. However, this plan has been revised, and the tour will now exclusively feature electric vehicles. The tour will include stops in major cities such as Munich, Helsinki, Copenhagen, Warsaw, and Madrid, among others.

Metallica’s decision to embrace electric vehicles for their tour underscores a growing trend towards sustainability in the music industry. By leading by example, Metallica is not only electrifying their performances but also setting a powerful precedent for environmentally conscious touring practices.
