Today Qualcomm is arguably one of the world’s leading wireless technology innovators and one of the leaders in the semiconductor manufacturing space, powering 29% of smartphones in the global market in the second quarter of 2022.

Although Qualcomm is more well-known when it comes to mobile devices, in recent years the California-based company has managed to expand its business portfolio beyond mobile devices, such as wearable gadgets and connectivity solutions.

One of them is Snapdragon Digital Chassis technology. To equip its vehicles with the best and latest digital capabilities, Mercedes-Benz will work closely with Qualcomm to utilize the “Snapdragon Digital Chassis” technology. In January, Renault, Volvo, and Honda did the same, which Stellantis eventually followed in April.

Mercedes will use the Snapdragon Cockpit Platform, for its all-digital “cockpit”. In addition, Mercedes will also use the Snapdragon Automotive Connectivity Platform for its telematics systems in future vehicles.

For now, Qualcomm’s Digital Chassis is the only open, scalable and scalable platform for new vehicles, so it’s no wonder that many major automakers are starting to adopt this technology.

“Our strong relationship is critical to guiding the automotive industry through a time of rapid growth and increasingly sophisticated technology,” said Magnus Ostberg, Chief Software Officer of Mercedes-Benz AG, of the company’s collaboration with Qualcomm.

These days almost every new car has at least some digital element, so it’s safe to say there will be more and more tech companies collaborating with top auto manufacturers. Because it looks like no car manufacturer wants to go back to using old technology in the near future.
