Setting the target to become a vehicle manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz has prepared a special factory network to produce their electric vehicle portfolio.
Mercedes aims to halve carbon emissions per passenger car over the life cycle by the end of this decade compared to 2020.
“We are ready for the rapid scaling of electric vehicle volumes,” said Joerg Burzer, board member for production and supply chain
Currently, there are four factories set up for the production of electric vehicles, namely in Sindelfingen, Bremen and Rastatt in Germany, as well as the Kecskemet factory in Hungary.
The four factories will start producing electric vehicles in the luxury segment in the middle of this decade. Meanwhile, the battery system will be supplied by factories on three continents.
According to Mercedes-Benz, local production of battery systems is a key success factor for the improvement of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles and their components, so that they are able to meet the global demand for electric vehicles in a flexible and efficient manner.
For the record, a series of EV alerts from Mercedes-Benz that have been marketed are present in the Mercedes-EQ brand, which scored a success.
