Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the interior of its upcoming all-electric GLC, highlighting a new 39.1-inch MBUX Hyperscreen that spans the width of the dashboard, the largest display the company has fitted to a production car. The model will make its public debut at the IAA Mobility show in Munich on Sept. 7.
The wide-format display builds on the Hyperscreen concept first introduced in the 2021 EQS but differs by being a true single-panel unit rather than three separate screens housed beneath a single pane of glass, as seen in the recently revealed electric CLA sedan. Mercedes said the new setup offers “exceptional clarity and vivid color” with the help of 1,000 LEDs for backlighting.
To reduce distraction, the system employs intelligent zone dimming, allowing less relevant areas of the display to fade while preserving key driving information. Mercedes said the feature ensures drivers receive essential updates without being overwhelmed.
The interior design also integrates two wireless smartphone charging pads in the upper console, positioned beneath a pair of central air vents. A small strip of physical controls and a volume dial sit below the chargers, with a matching control on the right-hand side of the steering wheel.
The cabin features advanced ambient lighting that interacts with the vehicle’s functions. Adjustments to digital climate controls, for instance, prompt a temporary change in both vent and ambient lighting colors as visual confirmation.
The new SUV, branded as the GLC with EQ Technology, will launch first in the form of the GLC 400 4Matic. Mercedes said the vehicle will support charging speeds above 320 kW, allowing it to add about 162 miles (260 km) of range in just 10 minutes.
The model will join Mercedes’ growing lineup of electric SUVs and crossovers as the automaker continues its rollout of EQ Technology across its core vehicle families.
