Mercedes has introduced a long-wheelbase version of its all-electric CLA sedan in China, about four months after its European debut. The new CLA 300 L, which stretches to 4.76 metres, is 40 millimetres longer than its main rival, the Tesla Model 3, and is tailored to Chinese consumers who prioritise generous rear legroom.
Unveiled at an event in Beijing on November 5, the electric sedan will start at 249,000 yuan (around €30,300), positioning it directly against Tesla’s Model 3, which begins at 235,500 yuan (€28,700). Mercedes has slightly lowered the CLA 300 L’s starting price from its earlier pre-sale level of 259,000 yuan (€31,600). A higher-spec variant will retail for 285,600 yuan (€34,800), while a limited-edition launch model, capped at 100 units and featuring the AMG design package and passenger display, is priced at 299,900 yuan (€36,600).

The CLA 300 L is equipped with an 89 kWh battery that delivers a CLTC range of up to 866 kilometres, surpassing the 830-kilometre range of the latest Tesla Model 3 variant launched in August. Its 200 kW (272 hp) rear-mounted electric motor consumes just 10.9 kWh per 100 km, while an entry-level 165 kW version is planned for later release. Thanks to an 800-volt architecture and 325 kW peak charging rate, the vehicle can recharge enough energy for 370 km of driving in just ten minutes under ideal conditions.
Manufactured locally by Beijing Benz Automotive Co., the joint venture between Mercedes-Benz and BAIC, the CLA 300 L was originally slated for production in April 2025. However, local media outlet 36Kr reported that software integration issues delayed the start of production until August.

To meet the expectations of Chinese consumers, Mercedes has outfitted the CLA 300 L with advanced infotainment and AI-driven features. The vehicle runs on the latest version of the MB.OS system powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip, a platform widely used in high-end EVs. The model also integrates the Doubao voice assistant, developed by TikTok parent company ByteDance, offering enhanced connectivity and interactive functions.
