Mercedes-Benz has unveiled its latest hybrid car model in the United States, the S 580e 4MATIC. The vehicle is the newest addition to the S-Class, boasting an advanced hybrid drive system that delivers exceptional performance and fuel efficiency. The S-Class plug-in hybrid has a starting price of $122,550 and will be available in U.S. dealerships in the first half of 2023.
The hybrid system of the S 580e 4MATIC includes a 3.0L I-6 six-cylinder engine and a 21.5kWh battery, paired with a synchronous electric motor. The combination generates an impressive output of 510 hp, with the electric motor capable of powering the vehicle independently. The S-Class has an all-electric range of more than 100 km (~62 miles), which is more than double the previous model’s range.

Charging the S 580e 4MATIC is a breeze, thanks to its 9.6 kW charger for at-home and public charging. It also has an optional 60 kW DC charger for fast charging, which can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in just 20 minutes.
The S-Class plug-in hybrid offers luxurious features that set it apart from its competitors. Additionally, the S 580e 4MATIC offers an optional E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL active suspension, which enhances the vehicle’s driving comfort and agility. When combined with the standard AIRMATIC air suspension, the system regulates the spring and damper forces on each wheel, counteracting roll, pitching, and lifting movements. The E-ACTIVE BODY CONTROL system operates on 48-volts and is available for models with an on-board electrical system of this type and 4MATIC.
