Mercedes-Benz plans to launch the battery-electric GLC in Thailand later this year, with the mid-size SUV to be assembled locally as the German automaker expands its electric vehicle lineup in the country’s growing EV market.
The electric GLC will be the second Mercedes-Benz model based on the company’s new Electric Architecture (MB.EA) to be produced in Thailand. The Thonburi Automotive Assembly Plant (TAAP) in Samut Prakan province already builds the electric CLA, which entered production at the beginning of 2026. The facility, owned by local Thonburi Group, also assembles models from the EQS range.
Electric GLC Uses 85 kWh Battery
The new GLC is based on the MB.EA-M platform developed for mid-size electric vehicles. It uses an 85 kWh lithium-ion battery assembled locally and offers a WLTP driving range of more than 600 kilometres.
Mercedes-Benz estimates average energy consumption at 15–16 kWh per 100 kilometres. The company has positioned the model as an important addition to its electric vehicle portfolio in Thailand, particularly in the mid-size SUV segment.
MB.OS and MBUX Hyperscreen Added
The electric GLC introduces Mercedes-Benz’s MB.OS operating system to the Thai market. The platform manages the vehicle’s digital and connected functions.
The SUV also features a 39-inch MBUX Hyperscreen extending across the dashboard, adding a large integrated display to the vehicle’s cabin.
Mercedes-Benz Thailand has already previewed the electric GLC locally, with the formal launch planned for the Motor Expo 2026. According to The Nation Thailand, deliveries are scheduled to begin in early 2027.
The model is expected to be priced below THB 3.7 million, equivalent to roughly €97,000.
Local Production Supports EV Strategy
Christian Schell, President and CEO of Mercedes-Benz Thailand, said the company expects the electric GLC to build on the response to the electric CLA while targeting the popular mid-size SUV segment.
“I expect nothing less than the effect that we had with the CLA as well, but just in a different segment. The GLC segment is very popular here in Thailand, and I think this car will be another home run for Mercedes-Benz.”
The local production of the electric GLC forms part of a broader strategy for Mercedes-Benz in Thailand. The company is also restructuring prices for 11 existing models and has introduced a new customer-service initiative called the “FLEX Campaign,” according to The Nation Thailand.
With the electric CLA already in local production, the GLC will further expand Mercedes-Benz’s Thailand-based manufacturing of battery-electric vehicles and add a mid-size SUV to its locally assembled EV portfolio.
