Mercedes-Benz has started production of the EQS 580 4MATIC electric car at its factory located in Pune, India. The EQS 580 is Mercedes’ 14th model to be produced in India, and India is the second country to produce electric cars for the brand after Germany.
This Indian-made Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is equipped with a 107.8 kWh battery pack with 400 volt technology and carries a pair of motors. Speaking of performance, this car is capable of producing 385 kW of power or the equivalent of 516 HP and 855 Nm of torque.
This EQS is an electric car in India which has the farthest range, reaching 677 km. Even according to the testing standards of the Automotive Search Association of India, this car has a range of 857 km.
“The EQS 580 4MATIC is our first EV to be produced locally in India and will play an important role in driving our ambitious EV plans for the market,” said Mercedes-Benz India Managing Director and Chied Executive Martin Schwenk.
With the launch of the locally made EQS, Mercedes-Benz now has a number of models from the Mercedes series in India. The series models include Mercedes, AMG, Maybach, and electric vehicle models.
To support the launch of the electric car, Mercedes claims it will build an ultra fast charging network that will reach 80 percent of India by the end of 2022. This charging network will be limited to Mercedes-Benz customers in the first year and provide 24/7 free charging.
Regarding the price, the Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC electric car will be marketed with a starting price of 15.5 million rupees. It is also unknown whether this electric vehicle will be marketed to other countries or not.
