Mercedes-Benz’s 2024 sales figures reveal a clear preference for performance vehicles over electric models, as the brand experienced strong sales in traditional gas-powered cars, but struggled in the electric vehicle (EV) market.
Mercedes-AMG reported a record fourth quarter with sales of 16,169 units, while the G-Class had its best year ever, with 10,987 SUVs sold. Crossovers were the brand’s top sellers, with the GLE leading the pack at 67,928 units, followed by the GLC at 64,163. The C-Class also saw a slight increase in sales, moving 35,590 units, up by 1% from the previous year.
However, the company’s electric vehicle lineup faced significant challenges. The EQB saw a 36% drop in sales, and the EQE lineup experienced a 39% decline. The EQS lineup was particularly hard-hit, with sales falling 52% to just 6,963 units. The eSprinter also struggled, with only 828 units sold.
Despite the challenges in the EV segment, the overall picture for Mercedes-Benz USA remained positive, as total passenger vehicle sales rose by 9% to 324,528 units. While the brand trailed BMW (371,346) and Lexus (345,669), it surpassed Audi (196,576), Cadillac (160,204), and other competitors.
In the performance car category, the new CLE lineup generated solid sales of 14,333 units, and the AMG GT saw a notable 77% increase, reaching 3,491 units. However, the SL experienced a sharp 56% decline, with only 1,608 units sold.
