Mercedes-Benz has announced that its battery-electric intercity bus, the eIntouro, has successfully completed high-temperature endurance trials in Andalusia, Spain. Over a five-week testing programme, the bus demonstrated operational reliability, charging performance, and energy management under ambient temperatures reaching 45°C. The model will make its world premiere at Busworld Europe 2025 in Brussels this October.
Testing covered the electric drivetrain, battery thermal regulation, and air conditioning systems, alongside charging behaviour at public rapid-charging stations. The prototypes also tackled climbs in the Sierra Nevada up to 2,500 metres at full load, with descents used to validate recuperation performance.
Daily runs of 300–500 kilometres were recorded, while adjustments to control systems for the drivetrain, charging, and climate control were made during the programme.
The eIntouro is equipped with a 320 kW central electric drive and up to two battery packs providing a total of 414 kWh, delivering a range of up to 500 kilometres. Compatible with CCS2 fast charging at up to 300 kW, the bus can recharge fully in about 90 minutes with two packs.
Earlier this year, Daimler Buses also tested the model under winter conditions near the Arctic Circle at -30°C. Already available to order, the eIntouro will be offered in 12.18-metre and 13.09-metre versions, seating 50 to 63 passengers.
