The future of superyachts is here, and it goes by the name of Domus. Created through a collaboration between Rob Doyle Design and Van Geest Design, this 40-meter solar electric sailing yacht promises to deliver the interior volume of a 60-meter yacht while emitting zero carbon emissions. What’s more, it’s fully sustainable and can propel itself using wind, solar, hydro regeneration, and hydrogen fuel cells to deliver “unlimited range.”
Pieter Van Geest, the Dutch-born yacht designer and project manager, utilized 2D and 3D computer aided design (CAD) to accomplish the detailed modeling of this trimaran. His company boasts a large portfolio of non-traditional maritime vessels, in addition to Domus. Meanwhile, the team at Rob Doyle Design brings three decades of experience to the superyacht segment, prioritizing high-performance, innovative, and timeless vessels that prioritize safety, speed, and comfort.
The unique combination of solar power, hydro-regeneration technology, and hydrogen fuel cells provides the yacht with unlimited range and zero emissions. The yacht also boasts an optimized system of solar power and battery storage, allowing it to run silently and without emissions while at anchor.

Domus not only represents a new way of designing superyachts to be spacious, safe, and sustainable, but it also showcases how far technology and design have come and continue to evolve across vessels like this trimaran. The yacht’s overall design is also quite aerodynamic, ensuring the utmost performance at sea.
Across two separate decks, Domus offers over 8,400 square feet of space, closer to that of a 60-meter yacht, but on a 40-meter footprint. The name Domus itself is derived from the Latin domesticus, representing a single-story home built around an atrium. This design philosophy has been adapted to the modern maritime age aboard the solar trimaran, with most cabins opening up to a central atrium.
The yacht offers accommodations like two owner’s suites, complete with their own lounges, in addition to four VIP guest cabins. Amenities include a cinema room, gym, saloon with a bar, plus a spa area complete with a swimming pool.
Looking ahead, both design teams state they are already working on an even larger yacht with zero emissions that they hope to bring to an actual shipyard soon. The Domus project has redefined what a multi-hull sailing superyacht can be, and it sets a new standard for sustainability in the industry. With cutting-edge technology and stunning design, Domus is leading the way for the future of luxury yachting.
