Motor Coach Industries (MCI) has launched its newest zero-emission bus, the D45 CRT Charge. Built on the standard D45 Commuter Rapid Transit, the battery-electric version provides a range of over 360 km with a battery capacity of 520 kWh.
Like the first and larger models, the new commuter buses rely on NFI technology, including regenerative propulsion and braking designed for highway speeds and capable of up to 90% energy recovery.
“The D45 CRT Charge marks the eighth unique zero emission bus introduced by NFI in the last two years,” said Chris Stoddart, President of Bus and Coach North America, NFI.
With electric drive components, said Chris, smooth MCI bus suspension and real-time analytics, this fully accessible bus provides operators with a combination of performance and sustainability benefits.
The electric CRT D45 retains most of the features of its ICE sibling, continued Chris, who is known as a workhorse in the public transport industry. In addition the bus is built on a stainless steel frame, the general system and production contribute to lower operating costs.
The bus chassis also supports J4500 Charge and D45 CRT Le Charge, while for bus charging, Chris continued, the company claims it takes less than four hours.
MCI added that it also provides virtual training for these e-bus drivers and 24/7 support through its services, including charging infrastructure options.
As is known, the NFI group includes New Flyer as an electric bus brand and a subsidiary of MCI. The Group also owns Scottish bus maker Alexander Dennis Limited since 2019. ADL is known for its double-decker buses and works closely with BYD on e-buses, especially in the UK.
